CURRENT NEWS AND UPDATES:

ATTENTION RESIDENTS/USERS IN THE WATER DISTRICT

As of November 18th, 2024, a Drought Watch has been issued for Otsego County and a Drought Warning has been declared for Delaware and Greene Counties. There are four stages of drought that can be declared in New York State – watch, warning, emergency, and disaster. For additional information on the different stages please follow this link - https://dec.ny.gov/environmental-protection/water/water-quantity/drought and for the current state drought conditions please follow this link - https://dec.ny.gov/environmental-protection/water/water-quantity/current-drought-conditions.

Due to the current drought conditions, water systems are being requested to implement water conservation measures to reduce the amount of water used daily so that the system can maintain a reliable supply of water to customers. For example, consider limiting non-emergency use of hydrants, issuing water use conservation notices to customers, surveying your system for leaks and repairing any found, etc. to reduce the amount of water you need to provide to maintain water service in your system.

If you have any questions please call Andy at 607-267-6870.

NYSDOH Lead Service Line Inventory

On May 11, 2024, Bovina Town Historian Ray LaFever hosted a panel of long time Bovina residents to share stories mainly of their childhoods from the 1940s and 1950s, supplemented/prompted by images taken at the time. Panelists included Marion Jardine, Patricia Thomas Parsons Miele, Marie Reinertsen Burns, Jack Burns, Jim Hilson, Chuck McIntosh, and Lauren Monroe. They talked about the last one room schools, the 1953 flood and the old Scott Bridge, among other topics. Over 70 people attended the program in person. All proceeds from the program were for the Bovina Historical Society’s museum.

We shared it via zoom and have now downloaded a recording at https://youtu.be/xJfxmsua72A. Please note that the zoom was supposed to include the images that were shared at the program but for some reason, they do not appear. To see these images, they have been posted on the Bovina NY History blog at https://bovinanyhistory.blogspot.com/2024/05/bovina-memories-program.html. Though the zoom video is not crystal clear, you’ll see and hear enough to learn a bit about Bovina in the 40s and 50s. Thank you to Marni Greenberg and Sangeeta Pratap for their help in allowing us to record this event.

BOVINA COMPREHENSIVE PLAN SURVEY

The Comprehensive Plan Committee continues to review the survey results and is currently developing a new plan to guide Bovina's development over the next several years. The 2002 Comprehensive Plan "…set forth a combination of strategies to deal with the growth and future needs of the Town of Bovina". Twenty-two years later, there have been many changes in farming, technology, and communication, yet according to the 2024 Comprehensive Survey, most residents still choose to live in Bovina because of its Rural atmosphere and farmland character.

Due to the ongoing interest in the Comprehensive Plan Survey, here is a link to the survey results.
